Last weekend we received a bounty of heirloom tomatoes from a local friend.

After eating about half of them, I remembered to take a picture (the dish they’re in is purely coincidental). 

I’d tell you what varieties they are, but I can’t remember all of the names.  What I can tell you is the pear-shaped ones (Japanese Black Trifeles?) taste just like marinara sauce.

At one point, while chopping the tomatoes for our second dinner in a row of pasta with raw tomato sauce, Anuj said ‘I think these are best tomatoes I’ve ever had.’

ps I’m proud to say the pesto in our raw tomato sauce came from our own basil.  I haven’t reported on our garden lately because, well, it’s all either gone or gone to seed (cough, broccoli).
